Bali was the first place H and I travelled to – he arranged a week trip in Bali in Dec 2007 for my birthday and it rained non stop! It took us 7 years to return even if it is only 2.5hrs away. The beaches are not as nice as those in Thailand, but Bali is a party place on a beach. Go with girlfriends or couple friends, and there are many clubs/ restaurants to party the night away.
The main shopping street in Seminyak is Jalan Laksmana and there are many hole in the wall money changers that gave me better than interbank rates!
Remember to make a reservations – Bali is a popular destination even on weekdays!
Restaurants in Seminyak
21 Jalan Petitenget
The restaurant in the middle of a rice padi field. Come before sunset so you can see the beautiful setting. Fish and seafood was perfectly prepared and they grow their own organic produce.
72 Jalan Laksmana
Restaurant is on the main shopping street. It is a nice romantic place and has a roof top lounge. Contemporary Indonesian food is presented in modern style (small portions)
3) Sip Wine Bar
16A Jalan Raya
Classic French food done well and great wine selection.
4) Made’s Warung
Home style Indonesian food. The large courtyard is always full so come prepared to sweat eating outdoors.
1) Potato Head
I was stunned by the architecture of this place. I was overwhelmed! The walk up to the bar is a narrow path where both walls are lined with windows(like the old lego style) and once you get to the top the place is just massive. It is a U shape building facing the beach, there are many different sections to have a drink.
2) Ku de ta
Having heard so much about this legend, we had to go. Overrated? It paled in comparison to Potato Head on the sheer size (maybe half), and we felt the reputation was bigger than what was delivered. To be fair, we went in the day for lunch so we missed the clubbing crowd.
The spa at the Anantara was too expensive, so we found some alternatives down the road. The Breezes Bali 5min down the road was a good place to get a back rub or scrub, or a cheaper alternative is Spa Bali 10min down the road.
Spa Bali #888 Jl. Camplung Tanduk(Dyanapura), tel 62 (361) 737933
Where we’re stayed
We stayed in an Ocean suite facing the beach. The rooms were big and spacious and the day bed on the balcony was a nice place to read away from the direct afternoon sun. The swimming pool though small was enough for our dipping needs. The breakfast was the best with a buffet + a la carte choice and the best way to start the day was on the deck facing the beach, having a cappuccino.
